In Training

Learn about some of the animals we are currently training on our farm.

2010 Filly "Poppy"

'Poppy' is a Saddlebred/Morgan cross filly born in June 2010. She is being foster homed on our farm and evaluated as a potential combined driving horse. If she meets our needs, she may become a permanent resident. Otherwise, she may be available for adoption as a started driving horse. Poppy is bright and learns quickly. She will be a fast paced driving horse for someone, as she's very light on her feet!

Freshly clipped for spring

Poppy is a handsome gal, all black with a small white star. She is extremely gregarious, always the first one to greet you at the gate in case you are giving out carrots or scratching itches.

Poppy gets a little training, while the neighborhood boys watch with interest.

Poppy likes to tell Oliver what she thinks... He doesn't pay much attention!

Lassie [rehomed]

Lassie is a 14 year old Standardbred mare retired from harness racing who was given to a rescue organization by an owner, who was suffering financial hardship. We foster homed and trained Lassie for some months. She recently received under-saddle training paid for by the US Trotting Association, and we believe she now has an adopter. We compliment the USTA for their efforts to place their retired race horses.

Obviously Lassie knew a thing or two about driving, but was a little confused about certain details we take for granted. Hills, for example, whether up or down. And right turns! We also had a few conversations about proper ground manners. Once she got used to a few changes, we had a lot of fun driving her, and she sure is a rocket ship in harness.

We wish you luck in your new home, Lassie!

Matilda

Matilda has been promoted to long term resident status! Please see her under Our Horses.

Training and Evaluation

We are available on a limited basis for evaluating potential driving horses and training them to drive up to intermediate levels. Our interest is sane, safe, fun driving horses, so not all breeds, individual horses, or situations are for us. If we cannot help you, we will be happy to refer you to trainers or organizations to help you try to reach your goals.

Please contact us with any questions on how we might help you with training.
